SUMMARY:Citizen Science Matchmaking event - Connecting citizens and science
DESCRIPTION:Citizens in Limburg are invited to contribute to ongoing resear
ch at a unique event hosted by Maastricht University Library. The Citizen
Science Matchmaking Event will take place on Monday 15 December 2025\, fro
m 13:30 to 17:00\, at the Theater aan het Vrijthof\, Ferdinand Duynstee Fo
yer.\nAbout the event\nSupported by a grant from the Dutch Research Counci
l (NWO)\, the event focuses on Open Science. Citizen science is a key aspe
ct of this approach\, allowing members of the public to actively engage wi
th research and make scientific knowledge more accessible to everyone.\n\n
The event combines a science fair with a ‘speed-dating’ format\, desig
ned to connect citizen volunteers with researchers from a variety of acade
mic and knowledge institutions in the region. At their stands\, researcher
s will present ongoing projects and include an interactive citizen science
element\, giving visitors the opportunity to participate in a hands-on re
search activity. A few projects participating in the event:\n\n Developin
 g AI for parents of school-age children\n A Maastricht history bring-your
-own photo-and-story clinic\n An app for managing chronic pain using AI\n
The online platform Ons Limburgs Museum\n A financial literacy workshop
 \n A bring-your-own-research-question workshop from Burgerkracht Limburg\
 n\nRead more about all participating projects.\nWhy participate?\nCitizen
Science allows members of the public to engage directly in research\, from
formulating questions to collecting and analysing data\, and contributing
to solutions. Participation not only provides insight into scientific pro
cesses but also helps generate knowledge that is relevant and reusable. It
fosters scientific understanding and trust\, which is especially importan
t in today’s society. Participation in this event is free of charge. Eve
ryone is welcome to participate in this event\, especially citizen volunte
ers.\n\nFor information and registration you can go to the UM Library webs
