SUMMARY:FAIR Coffee lecture - Ronald Cornet
DESCRIPTION:UM is on a mission to become a leading example in the Open Scie
nce movement\, which aims to make research papers\, data\, methods\, etc.
open to anyone so we can all benefit. The FAIR principles go hand-in-hand
with Open Science and they form a great guide to make sure that the resear
ch you make Open\, can actually be used. With the FAIR Coffee lecture seri
es\, the Open Science Community of UM\, in collaboration with the Communit
y for Data-Driven Initiatives (CDDI)\, will help you find out more about t
hese topics and discover how your colleagues have applied Open Science and
FAIR principles to their research. These lectures are a perfect chance to
dip your toes in the FAIR water and find inspiration in the work of other
s!\n\nIn this second session of the FAIR Coffee lectures\, on November 10
2021 at 10 am\, we’ve invited Dr Ronald Cornet\, from the department of
Medical Informatics in the Amsterdam Public Health research institute\, Am
sterdam UMC to give a presentation entitled “FAIR – From Principles vi
a Practices to Profits” (abstract) in which he will provide in his words
“an incomplete view on ongoing activities” in FAIR\, and present less
ons learnt from various research projects.\n\nHis research focuses on sema
ntic interoperability\, both from a technical perspective and from a users
' point of view\, including natural language processing. This research has
resulted in over 70 journal publications and over 80 peer-reviewed confer
ence proceedings.\n\nA four-time awardee of the best-teacher price in the
Medical Informatics curriculum at the University of Amsterdam\, Ronald is
involved in a plethora of health care information standardization initiati
ves\, including the Dutch\, European (CEN) and global (ISO) standardizatio
n committees on health informatics.\n\nHe is also involved in SNOMED Inter
national\, which is responsible for maintenance and further development of
SNOMED CT. He chairs the IMIA working group on Language and Meaning in Bi
omedicine\, and participates in various international projects: FAIR4Healt
h\, European Joint Programme Rare Diseases (EJP-RD)\, CAPABLE\, and C4C.\n
 \nThe program is as follows:\n\n 10.00 A quick introduction on FAIR/Open
Science and the FAIR Coffee lecture series\n 10.05 Main lecture by Dr Ron
 ald Cornet (Including discussion/questions)\n 	10.50 Caffeine quiz &amp\;
closing statement\n\nPlease register for the event on the right side of th
