Why join the festival?
Open Science is about making research more open, transparent, and collaborative by encouraging the sharing of results, data, and methods. It creates space for stronger interdisciplinary collaboration and fosters meaningful connections with society. For researchers, this means greater visibility, improved reproducibility, and new opportunities for collaboration. Educators benefit from access to open educational resources, while policymakers and the wider public gain better access to knowledge, enabling more informed decision-making and greater societal impact. The festival’s focus on interdisciplinarity brings these values to life by connecting people from different fields, backgrounds, and perspectives. It’s a chance to learn from one another, spark new ideas, and build collaborations that go beyond disciplinary boundaries. For questions please contact osc-maastricht@maastrichtuniversity.nl
Signing of the Barcelona Declaration
The Festival will close with Maastricht University (UM) signing the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information on 12 June. The Barcelona Declaration is an international initiative that calls for greater transparency, openness, and inclusivity in the way research information is created, shared, and used. It promotes a shift away from closed, proprietary systems towards open infrastructures that better support the values of Open Science. For UM, signing the Declaration marks an important step in strengthening its commitment to Open Science and to responsible research assessment. The signing is preceded by a lecture on Open Research Information by Ludo Waltman. It is possible to sign up for only this part of the Festival (including the closing reception), by going to this registration page. If you register for the Festival itself, the Barcelona Declaration signing is automatically included.
